The Asset Management team at SLEFI held a training session on April 9 for its owners and property managers on the topic of Tenant File Compliance.  Knowing that it can be costly and time-consuming to provide training for property management staff, we partnered with RubinBrown to provide this free afternoon refresher course.   SLEFI staff conducted the training and supplied the course materials and RubinBrown provided  the conference room and technology equipment.  

Subjects we discussed included:

• proper file organization
• necessary forms
• initial certification and recertification procedures
• HOME file compliance requirements
• income and asset types
• income and asset calculations
• student status
• utility allowances
• dealing with non-compliance

Turnout for this session was great, and plans are in the works to provide similar training as well as coordinate a third-party LIHTC certification course and other special topics a few times a year.  We also plan to work with MHDC’s Asset Management department to guide our topic choice and provide a means for discussion and clarification on topics that may arise during their property and file inspections.
